YHS students scored even
with state, nation on SAT

Yosemite High School students scored almost even with the state and national averages on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). This is a college entrance examination taken by juniors and seniors who plan to attend college. For the 1999-2000 school year, 81 YHS students took the test. The total average score for YHS students was 1011 (509 in verbal and 502 in mathematics).

The total average score for California was 1015 (497 in verbal and 518 in math) and nation-wide it was 1019 (505 in verbal and 514 in math). The highest possible total score is 1600 (800 in math and 800 in verbal).

Two YHS students achieved perfect scores of 800 in verbal: Virginia Corless, a junior in 1999-2000 and Saranya Srinivasan, a sophomore in 1999-2000. Virginia had a total score of 1560 out of the possible 1600 and Saranya had a total score of 1510.
