Christo Tree 2000
10-26-00

Yosemite High School second year art students have turned recycled bottles, string, sheets and wood into a Christo Tree. The piece of art is in front of the art building at YHS and, in homage to Christo, will remain there for two weeks.
The students studied the work of Christo Javacheff before making their tree with items that were donated by local businesses.
Art teacher Rivka Schaffner notes that Christo is a contemporary conceptual artist who wraps buildings, bridges, coastlines and islands "to help see the beauty of the form of things, rather than the details of objects." He only shows his work for a period of two weeks before it is dismantled.
Miss Schaffner says she and the students hope people from the community will visit the campus to view the tree. "We hope this tree will inspire you and your friends to think and talk openly about the famous Christo question --- What makes this art?" she said.
