The
opening of the 2003-2004 school year was very smooth. Yosemite High
School opened with 1229 students, which is a slight increase in enrollment
over last year.
We are experiencing slightly larger class sizes in some areas and
will continue to work to balance classes through the first several
weeks of school.
We experienced a few challenges with the construction of the new parking
and drop off area that was under construction during the first week
of school. The project was completed by the second week of school
and provides for a much smoother flow of traffic and makes room for
the addition of a new 23-classroom building on which construction
is scheduled to begin this fall.
Yosemite High School welcomed several new members to the staff this
year: Randy Hyatt, Sonia Garnica, Li Harmon, Greg Hill, Jessica Carsrud
and Jerilyn Wiliamson. School opened this year with a continued emphasis
on student dress standards. There was one change to the dress code
that was approved for the beginning of the school year that prohibited
spaghetti straps. Students have responded very well in meeting the
expectations that have been set for them and we appreciate the cooperation
of both students and parents in helping us to meet the standards established
by the Board of Education.
Parents of 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students will be receiving a
copy of their student’s STAR test results in early September. Please
take a few minutes to review your student’s scores. We saw significant
improvement in scores last year, with increases in 16 of the 20 testing
categories.
We are looking forward to another great year and look forward to seeing
you at school events this year.
